He is a Public Health Specialist and Medical Doctor with a wealth of experience in health services management. He is the current Coordinator of the Research Department for International Health Sciences University (IHSU), and a Lecturer in the Institute of Health Policy and Management at IHSU.He has been involved in Clinical work by the local government and Public Health work since 2001. Prior to this he was a national coordinator of a US funded Community Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV project with THETA, and worked with District Local government, and has also been an active member on the national Technical Working Group for PMTCT with the Ministry of Health Uganda. Currently he is a member of the IHSU Research Ethics Committee, a lecturer and Coordinator of the Research Department. He has participated in clinical and social research, evaluation of health, training of health workers and social development in health and he is the founder member and first project lead for HIV Project Hope in rural Uganda in 2004.
He is currently a Co-PI for study on Confidential Enquiry of Child and Maternal deaths in Kampala slums, Co-PI on the ECHO VHT training project and among the Co-PI on the Pilot Study on the CLEAR Toolkit for frontline health workers for improved health care to mothers in Kampala.
My research interests span across slum health, primary health care, reproductive health, nutrition, geriatric medicine and community development.
Dr. Peter is teaching Reproductive Health, Population studies, Understanding Public health, Communicable and Non-Communicable diseases, Healthcare and Health systems, as well as Monitoring and Evaluation in healthcare. He’s been involved in supervision of undergraduate and graduate students’ research since 2011 to the level of publication of their work.
